Unlock and JailBreak iPhone 4.1

So Dev Team released a new version of Pwnage to jailbreak and unlock the iphone 4.1 OS - great stuff

But with early releases come some challenges for some folks (including me) - unfortunately in trying to achieve this on an iPhone 4 that was jail broken and unlocked on 4.01 I ran into some problems.

I followed the instructions built custom ipsw with Pwnage 4.1 and entered DFU mode but the restore failed with an error 1600. Attempted again and it failed again this time with error 21 and the iPhone now boots up to the "iTunes" mode and there seems no way to get it into the special DFU mode and regular restore selecting the custom ipsw file fails every time

It was this post from Lukasz_Thorn was a big help:

Today will be a good day :-) After three days of fighting, I have a solution for people experiencing 160x and 23 errors in iTunes while trying to restore custom firmware prepared by PwnageTool.

Tested on: iPhone 3Gs with new bootroom, OSX 10.4.11
Symptoms: You are trying to enter DFU mode following PwnageTool instructions. In the last step, while you are holding home button, PwnageTool stops counting at 6, and at the same time iPhone goes from DFU to normal Recovery mode (you will see picture on the iPhone screen) and iTunes windows pops out on the screen of computer. You can then try to reset iPhone multiple times, until at some point you will get message from PwnageTool that ‘You are in’ (DFU mode) and you can restore now. While restoring your custom firmware you are getting 1600 /1602 /1603 error (in DFU mode) or 23 error (in Recovery mode).
What went wrong: The PwnageTool’s special DFU mode was not completed successfully. You are either in normal recovery or normal DFU mode. Thus you will not be able to restore firmware other as cooked by Apple itself.
What will you need: A Mac. External USB Hub. PwnageTool.

1. Close iTunes. Move it to the trash. For a moment we don’t want to let iTunes mess around the process. Therefore move iTunes icon to a trash (but don’t empty the trash – we will need iTunes soon). Restart computer to make sure that no iTuness process is still in the memory.
2. Connect external USB hub to the Mac. Then connect iPhone to this external hub instead of connecting it directly to the computer. It might not be necessary but I suppose it is and it worked for me.
3. Run PwnageTool. If you already have your custom firmware ready, go to step 4. If you dont, prepare custom firmware, following PwnageTool instructions.
4. Click DFU button in the PwnageTool. Follow instructions. Make sure that iPhone is connected to the external hub while doing so. This time iPhone will go in the right DFU mode – you will see that PwnageTool stops counting at 8, and after some delay the iPhone screen stays blank and you are getting ‘You are in’ message in PwnageTool.
5. Bring iTunes back from the trashcan. Reconnect iPhone cable directly to the computer (restoring process will be much faster). Restore custom firmware. This time it should work without problems.
6. Let others know whether it helped or not. Include your iPhone model information.

For me this fixed it and I was able to restore but I had a lingering problem with Cydia Application not able to run. The iPhone was Jail broken and unlocked by the Cydia app just opened and immediately closed. Not *exactly* sure why but in redoing the Pwnage Custom Firmware I removed a Cydia in the "Cydia Settings/Select Packages Screen":

Which had some additional packages loaded including a listing of Cydia - removing these, rebuilding and restoring returned everything to normal

Thanks to the Dev team and all the contributors who make this possible.

From HIS ears to your eyes. Sunderland, England paramedics found a

Do You Want to be Subjected to Additional Radiation

This pilot did not - Michael Roberts an ExpressJet Airlines pilot out of Memphis for more than 4 years refused to subject himself to a full body scan by TSA. This led to a stalemate when he also refused being frisked. I have to say I'm with him - the authorities naturally discount the issue of radiation. You can read more here:

How to Opt Out - and I've personally experienced the attempt at humiliation by one airports screeners when I elected (as I will every time) to decline a personal body scanner

But the underlying point from Michael Roberts is important

The town called Pilsen ( Plzen ).

Very refreshing story
Have you ever wondered if anyone in Europe remembers America's sacrifice in World War II? There is an answer in a small town in the Czech Republic. The town is called Pilsen (Plzen).

Every 5 years, Pilsen conducts the Liberation Celebration of the City of Pilsen in the Czech Republic. May 6th, 2010, marked the 65th anniversary of the liberation of Pilsen by General George Patton’s 3rd Army. Pilsen is the town that every American should visit. Because they love America and the American Soldier...

Even 65 years later... by the thousands,

The citizens of Pilsen came to say thank you.

Lining the streets of Pilsen for miles –

From the large crowds,

to quiet reflective moments,

including this American family's private time to honor and remember their American hero.

This is the crash site of Lt. Virgil P. Kirkham, the last recorded American USAAF pilot killed in Europe during WWII. It was Lt. Kirkham's 82nd mission and one that he volunteered to go on. At the time, this 20-year-old pilot's P-47 Thunderbolt plane was shot down, a young 14-year-old Czech girl, Zdenka Sladkova, was so moved by his sacrifice she made a vow to care for him and his memory. For 65 straight years, Zdenka, now 79-years-old, took on the responsibility to care for Virgil's crash site and memorial near her home.

On May 4th, she was recognized by the Mayor of Zdenka's home town of Trhanova , Czech Republic, for her sacrifice and extraordinary effort to honor this American hero.

Another chapter in this important story... the Czech people are teaching their children about America's sacrifice for their freedom.

American Soldiers, young and old, are the ''Rock Stars'' these children and their parents want autographs from.

Yes, Rock Stars! As they patiently waited for his autograph, the respect this little Czech boy and his father have for our troops serving today was heartwarming and inspirational.

The Brian LaViolette Foundation established The Scholarship of Honor in tribute to General George S. Patton and the American Soldier, past and present.

Each year, a different military hero will be honored in tribute to General Patton's memory and their mission to liberate Europe. This award will be presented to a graduating senior who will be entering the military or a form of community service such as fireman, policeman, teaching or nursing -- a cause greater than self. The student will be from 1 of the 5 high schools in Pilsen, Czech Republic.

The first award will be presented in May 2011 in honor of Lt. Virgil Kirkham, that young 20-year-old P-47 pilot killed 65 years ago in the final days of WWII.

Presenting Virgil's award will be someone who knows the true meaning of service and sacrifice... someone who looks a lot like Virgil. Marion Kirkham, Virgil's brother, who himself served during WWII in the United States Army Air Corps!!!

In closing... Here is what the city of Pilsen thinks of General Patton’s grandson. George Patton Waters (another Rock Star!) we're proud to say, serves on Brian's Foundation board.

And it's front page news over there… not buried in the middle of the social section.

Brigadier General Miroslav Zizka – 1st Deputy Chief of Staff, Ministry of Defense, Czech Armed Forces.

Cute little boat and matching car

This £17million yacht that comes with its own supercar (but be quick, there are only going to be 6 of them) As far as freebies go, a luxury supercar has got to be near the top of the list. But if you're already forking out £17million for a 122ft state-of-the- art super-yacht, you wouldn't really expect anything less. This ultimate 'buy one, get one free' offer has recently gone on the market attracting attention from billionaires all over the world.

Double the fun: The incredible super-yacht comes with its own supercar which can be stored on board The luxury yacht has a plush Art Deco interior, boasts 4 large double state rooms, a reception area, salon, 52" LED TVs and state-of-the art sound systems in every room - all of which can be personalized. The ship can reach top speeds of 43 knots, with its twin MTU 16V000 engine, and the ability to achieve 55 knots with optional Rolls Royce KaMeWa boosters offering a staggering 14,000hp. The supercar is powered by a 880hp twin turbo V12 engine, has a top speed of 233mph.

The matching supercar rolling off the docked £17million yacht
The design can be changed to suit the individual buyer; you can park your new car on board in its very own garage, located at the stern of the ship. Kurt Strand, founder of the Swedish company Strand Craft, said they had built the boat and car for the 'very wealthy'. He said: 'We have had a lot of interest from all over the world, specifically the Middle East. It was designed for luxury and people who want the best. 'The custom-made supercar is the best feature, both the boat and the car are very high performance and the boat is very fast. 'It is very unique as we are only making 6, so it's exclusive. It has a very futuristic design and nothing like this has ever been made before. It even has bulletproof windows.'

The gigantic yacht easily dwarfs the waiting supercar on the dock
The yacht has room on the deck at the back to soak up the sun, and pose for paparazzi
Crashing through the waves the yacht can hit speeds of up to 43 knots Mr. Strand said that they would sell the duo on a first come, first served basis. 'We have already 5 people interested and we will have meetings with them next week, it's a very expensive boat to produce, it will be the most exclusive in the world. I am very proud of it!
